Kobe surpasses Jordan, Lakers beat Timberwolves
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Kobe Bryant has shot more than 11,000 free throws in his NBA career. He has been at the line in critical moments with championships hanging in the balance.
Still, when he stepped to the line midway through the second quarter of a December game against the lowly Minnesota Timberwolves, the weight of Air sat on his shoulders. And it was heavy. Bryant needed nine points to pass Jordan and, after missing four of his first five shots, he knocked down a pair of free throws with 5:24 to play in the first half to join Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Karl Malone on the NBA's career scoring podium. Bryant shot 7 for 20m but scored 10 in the final five minutes and hit a 3-pointer with just over a minute to play that helped seal the victory.

Heavy Rain for the West Coast

The heavy rain band, which stalled over the Bay Area and Central Coast on Thursday, moved a little faster Friday morning, providing a quick burst of rain for the Southland in time for Friday morning's rush hour.
Meanwhile, the rains that plagued northern California much of Thursday will finally start to ease as the downpours shift south.

December Poem (2)

"I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December
A magical thing
And sweet to remember.
'We are nearer to Spring
Than we were in September,'
I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December."

Recent Weather Forcast

California Rainfall: Sinkholes, Mudslides Reported; San Francisco Airport Receives More Rain in 1 Week Than in All of 2013
Mudslides, rockslides and sinkholes have all been reported following days of rainfall across the state, leaving some streets flooded and residents in wildfire-scarred areas reaching for sandbags. While much of the event is ending, some areas are still expected to see more rain before the system leaves California.
"Most of California will see less than an inch of rain on Wednesday," said weather.com meteorologist Linda Lam. "However, a few spots near Los Angeles and in northern California could see an additional two or three inches."

Christmas Joys

Evergreen boughs that fill our homes
With fragrant Christmas scents,
Hearts filled with the loving glow
That Christmas represents;

Christmas cookies, turkeys stuffed,
Festive holly berry,
Little faces bright with joy,
Loved ones being merry;

Parties, songs, beribboned gifts,
Silver bells that tinkle,
Christmas trees and ornaments,
Colorful lights that twinkle;

Relatives waiting with open arms
To smile and hug and kiss us;
These are some of the special joys
That come along with Christmas.

November Poems (5)

"The body is like a November birch facing the full moon
And reaching into the cold heavens.
In these trees there is no ambition, no sodden body, no leaves,
Nothing but bare trunks climbing like cold fire!

My last walk in the trees has come. At dawn
I must return to the trapped fields,
To the obedient earth.
The trees shall be reaching all the winter.

It is a joy to walk in the bare woods.
The moonlight is not broken by the heavy leaves.
The leaves are down, and touching the soaked earth,
Giving off the odors that partridges love."
-   Robert Bly, Solitude Late at Night in the Woods

November Poem (4)

November's Wind
"The wind that makes music in November corn is in a hurry.  The stalks hum, the loose husks whisk skyward in half-playing swirls, and the wind hurries on....
A tree tries to argue, bare limbs waving, but there is no detaining the wind."

No school Tomorrow in Honor of Veterans Day

We Owe Them a Lot

On Veterans Day we remember again Our men and women who served; We honor them now for what they did then: The liberties they preserved.

Let’s never forget their sacrifice, The hard, heavy work they have done; They did what was asked, crucial needs they fulfilled, With a telephone, pencil or gun.

We’re happy and proud to honor them; They gave so much more than they got. Our heroes, our veterans kept freedom safe; All of us owe them a lot. By Joanna Fuchs

November Poems (3)

"Two sounds of autumn are unmistakable, the hurrying rustle of crisp leaves blown along the street or road by a gusty wind, and the gabble of a flock of migrating geese. Both are warnings of chill days ahead, fireside and topcoat weather." - Hal Borland

November Poems (2)

"The name 'November' is believed to derive from 'novem' which is the Latin for the number 'nine'.  In the ancient
Roman calendar November was the ninth month after March.  As part of the seasonal calendar November is the
time of the 'Snow Moon' according to Pagan beliefs and the period described as the 'Moon of the Falling Leaves'
by Black Elk."

November poems (1)

"So dull and dark are the November days. The lazy mist high up the evening curled, And now the morn quite hides in smoke and haze; The place we occupy seems all the world." - John Clare, November

Spiritual Poem about Nature
It seems that it is in mans nature to live a spiritual lifestyle. We need very much to live a meaningful life and therefore we look to find purpose in our lives. Religion is simply a system devised to live your life according to the meaning that you have envisioned for your life. Others find the structure of organized religion to be stifling. They find that going into nature is the best way to get in touch with the spirit. It seems that the trees, and the grass and flowers never lose sight of their purpose. In the same way, nature helps us get in touch with our inner spirit that never forgets.
